M2: Miniature Motorsport is Back!

A car takes a hard corner.

A car takes a hard corner during a game of M2. (Car by Hot Wheels (http://www.hotwheels.com/)).

Today sees the completion of M2’s first revision in three years! The last time you saw M2 it was called Petrolhead; unfortunately the name has been taken by similar game of an electronic nature. It didn’t seem right to use it in such circumstances, so only the name has changed to protect, well, someone…

In addition I have uploaded a set of quick reference record cards to use in your games. Rather than scribbling vehicle damage onto scraps of paper, why not use these? You can slip ‘em into a card sleeve and mark the outer plastic with a whiteboard marker. That way you can simply wipe off the ink after every game and have your awesome ride freshly repaired for the next race!

Both files have been added to our Downloads page. Go get them now.

New Basing Requirements for UF 1.0.x

There was some talk around the development team about formalising the basing for models in Unbridled Fury. It seemed for a while that we would need a strict system of basing to keep combat and visibility under control and fair. However, this idea has merits but does not uphold the spirit of the game. Part of the strength of the Unbridled Fury system is the freeness of the force composition and the basing of models.

So instead I had to think of something else:

Scenario Structure in Unbridled Fury

(This is a re-post of an article on Unbridledfury.net from some time ago, but useful enough to get posted again…)

The new Unbridled Fury scenario structure is intended to make writing scenarios a lot easier and more meaningful. Most of it is fairly straightforward. I have outlined the structure in this post so that people can easily write their own scenarios for their own game settings or linked campaigns.

There is also a PDF version of the below outline in the downloads area. It is handy to print out and have next to you if you don’t like flicking between webpages and your editor, or you are writing notes on paper around the games table as you design your scenario and don’t have a computer handy.

I will be releasing more scenarios as time goes on, including new versions of the ‘attacker’s objectives’ listed in the rulebook.

If you have any questions about the scenario format, feel free to contact me or comment on this post.

Furidion Games is Go

Greetings everyone! Welcome to the new Furidion Games website, a home for our various game development projects and a place to promote what we are up to. If you have been with us for a while, this site replaces Unbridledfury.net (yes, it has been tried before, but this is better, truly) and incorporates every project we are working on. This includes Unbridled Fury, HEAT and M2, as well as our future releases.

Our games will be published in a printed form as I have mentioned on UF.net in the past. It seems like a natural progression. We decided that it would be a whole lot better to have our hard work made into something we can touch and feel. It’s just not as satisfying when it’s  a collection of pixels that players still have to print out and bind. That said, our ‘light’ versions will remain online as PDFs and will continue to be completely compatible with our full games. We did this years ago with the earlier Unbridled Fury: Core game and it was a great success. The new light versions will not be available in print, only in PDF from this website.

–Status Reports–

Unbridled Fury

Unbridled Fury

Unbridled Fury will be our first release in the new format because it is closest to being finished. We are still discussing the final format for the rulebook. I’ll keep you all posted.

Only the most core rules will remain in the main rulebook and will be expandable with later game modules. These will include new collections of Company Lists, Scenarios, Campaigns and alternative game play ideas. I’ll try to post some free ones as well. This modular approach has worked well in the past and gives the players complete control over which bits of the rules they wish to use.

HEAT: High Energy Anti Tank

HEAT: High Energy Anti Tank

Close on Unbridled Fury’s heels is HEAT, our up and coming game of 6mm Science Fiction armoured warfare. The game has just as much flexibility as Unbridled Fury, but instead of skirmishes focuses purely on company level warfare in high-tech settings. Dennis has been working hard on these rules for some years now, and finally we will be getting a chance to read them.

We are soon to be approaching the final playtesting of the game and have great hopes for this game. Stay tuned.

M2: Miniature Motorsport

M2: Miniature Motorsport

Yes, I will get this done. Soon, my friends, soon… It’s a time thing, Unbridled Fury does get priority.

How will we do it? Not sure. Though a book would be nice, it might not happen that way. Still on hold for the moment, though still keen and collecting cars like crazy…

Furidion Yearbook

This is still on the cards. Never heard of this one? Originally it was to only be for Unbridled Fury as the Unbridled Fury Annual. We will now expand it to cover all of our games. Whether it is print or not is still a topic for discussion. It will probably take more than a year at least before the first one sees production towards the end of 2010.
